Gift Memberships

It would be helpful to give the opportunity for customers to purchase subscriptions they can hand over as a gift to a friend (email address- invitation).

We would love to do this, however Shopify really restricts our ability here. When a customer checks out with a subscription item (such as a membership), a "subscription contract" is created for the purchaser within Shopify. This "subscription contract" cannot be transferred, so the owner of it will always be the purchaser.
We are hopeful that someday Shopify will allow for transferring subscription contracts so that a purchaser can gift a subscription to another person who would then own that subscription, however we unfortunately can't do that today.
The best option for gifting subscriptions is sending a gift card (which I know is not the best workaround).
